FCP Lottery And Enrollment Policy SY 18-19
Foundations College Preparatory School’s Lottery for the upcoming school year (2019-20) will take place on Friday, February 1, 2019 at 9am at the school at 1233 W 109th Place, Chicago, IL 60643. The lottery will only take place if the number of applications received exceeds the number of available seats in a particular grade (grades 6 to 12*).
To be considered for the lottery, applications must be received no later than 4pm on Thursday, January 31st, 2019. An electronic application is available on our website (https://www.foundationscollegeprep.org/apply/) or a paper application can be completed in the Main Office. Applications received after 4pm on January 31st will be added to our waitlist in the order they are received or, if seats are still available, parents/guardians may enroll students immediately on a first come, first serve basis in the Main Office.
The lottery is open to the public and videotaped. At a minimum, the Executive Director, Director of Finance and Administration, and Senior Manager of Operations will be present. The lottery will be conducted starting with the oldest grade (12th) and ending with the youngest grade (6th). FCP will conduct a manual lottery individually by grade by writing the names of students on slips of paper, folding them, placing them in a container, and drawing blindly until all slips have been opened. Seats will given in the order in which names are drawn. After all seats are given, waitlist spots will be given in the order in which names are drawn. If an applicant also has a sibling(s) in a younger grade(s) and that applicant earns a seat during their grade’s lottery, the younger sibling(s) will automatically earn a seat in their grade(s) or be placed in the highest available spot on their grade’s waitlist and will not need to participate in the lottery for their grade(s).
In the event that there are more applications by siblings of currently enrolled FCP students than there are available seats in a particular grade, siblings of current FCP students are given priority and a sibling lottery is conducted. The sibling lottery is conducted prior to the general lottery using the same process as described above, except only siblings of existing FCP students are included.
Following the lottery, parents/guardians are notified via phone no later than Monday, February 4, 2019 that either their student has received a seat or of their student’s number on the waitlist if they did not receive a seat. In the event that a parent’s/guardian’s phone number is no longer active, notification will occur via mail. Parents have up to one week (five business days) to accept the seat, if received, and complete enrollment paperwork in the Main Office. If enrollment paperwork is not received within one week of notification, their student’s seat is given up and the next student on the waitlist is notified that they have been accepted. Waitlist students also have up to one week following notification to complete their enrollment paperwork or they will also give up their seat.
